Job Description:

DOL Job Placement Specialist – Part-Time (20 hours per week)

The Health and STEM Pathways program provides Middlesex Community College (MCC) students with support to enhance their opportunities to succeed in Health and STEM programs. The programs include the Clinical Lab Tech certificate and associate degree programs, Health and Bioscience prep program, Biotechnology program, and Academy of health professions programs.

 

General State ment of Duties:

Under a Department of Labor Grant, the Job Placement Specialist, reporting to the Coordinator of Health & STEM Pathways, is a knowledgeable and creative individual responsible for overseeing the job placement activities associated with the college’s Department of Labor (DOL) grant, Massachusetts Community College and Workforce Development Transformation Agenda. The Job Placement Specialist serves as the key resource for programs and services designed for Health & STEM students and graduates transitioning to employment. The Job Placement Specialist is charged with increasing the job placement rates for Health & STEM graduates. The Job Placement Specialist will work with college program coordinators and faculty within the Health and STEM division, college career services, as well as local Career Centers, partner universities, business and industry to develop job leads, undergraduate research experiences, internships, and on campus career fairs and hiring events. This is a part time position approximately 20 hours per week.

 

Essential Duties:


• Establish programs and services in support of MCC’s DOL grant goals concerning the career outcomes for students and graduates in Health and STEM careers.
• Increase the job placement percentage of Health and STEM graduates.
• Support students through all stages of their job placement experience: initial referral to career counselors, planning sessions for job search strategy, resume review and job interview preparation, advice regarding job leads/selection, and counseling to help students successfully manage their professional development.
• Counsel students on job placement, including job-search skill development and job search strategies
• Work closely with area employers, doing outreach and developing strong relationships
• Maintain positive, responsive community relations with area employers and community based organizations in Health and STEM
• Identify and post job leads, assisting students and employers through the placement process
• Develop internship and research opportunities for Health and STEM students with area employers, industry and four year institutions.
• Collaborate and work closely with the Health and STEM Pathways Coordinator, MCC Office of Career Services, Navigators, and area Career Centers supporting their efforts to guide students in explorations of career and educational pathways and job readiness
• Participate in related industry and community partnerships, including but not limited to educational and professional associations and committees.
• Keep current on STEM and Health industry hiring and training trends
• Coordinate Health and STEM career fairs and onsite employer hiring sessions at MCC
• Assist in the development and maintenance of an efficient and accurate database of job leads, applicants and placement statistics
• Track student placement information and conduct student exit interviews.

 

Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a BA or BS degree with 2 to 3 years of experience in job placement, job development or other relevant experience
• Evidence of the ability to work independently, and excellent administrative and organizational skills
• Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills including listening skills
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability in use of data bases and other computer based technologies
• Ability to establish community, employer and university relationships
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and meet job placement program goals.
• Experience working with individuals of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.

 

Additional Information:

SALARY: $23.79 per hour for 20 hours per week

STARTING DATE: February 2013.
